Moving Dots Over A Map
Like most everything in editing there’s more then one way to make moving lines, dots or other objects over a graphic. After some experimenting I have found the following method works best for me. I use Photoshop but I expect that any photo editor that supports layers and has a reversible gradient tool will work.
For this ‘How To’ I will make moving dots over a map.
Open map in Photoshop. Make map or Canvas size 640 X 480. Save As Map A.tiff.
Change background to Layer 0. Add a layer (1).
Select a contrasting color. (different then map) Paint dots on map route layer 1.
Hide Background layer 0
Use the Color Range tool, select the dot color.
Use the masking tool to mask around the dots.
Add layer 2. Set the Gradient tool to run from dark to light. Draw the gradient tool in the direction the dots should flow.
Hide layer 1. At this point the only layer that should be visible is layer 2 with the dots flowing dark to light.
Open The Alpha Magic Folder. Save as xxx.jpeg. Now delete layer two. Unhide layer 0 & 1. Flatten Image. Save as Map B.tiff
In Studio place Map A & B on the time line. Insert the home made Alpha Magic transition .
