Hi,
I need the GPS coordinates displayed on the video.  Like the Date/time is displayed.

Is there any camera that will display both the D/T and GPS?

I am willing to run the video feed into a computer and add the GPS into the video feed.

Does anyone know of a way to get the desired results?
thanks
Michael

There are modern Digital SLR cameras that can do that if you add a module.

But I don't know if there are any Video Cameras that can do it.

Do you need the data to be recorded direct, perhaps whilst you are recording on the move, or would taking readings manually and adding the data during editing do.

I need it run during editing.  Or I loose the integrity of the shoot.  If I do it in Edit then I could have added any coordinates that I wanted.

This is just another way to say that I am at a certain spot other than my verbal say so and a few land marks.

So perhaps I may have to build up a laptop with firewire from the camera and a GPS input signal  to get the desired results.

I know how to get the video in and the signal from the GPS into the computer.   The question now is how do I merge them in real time to get one avi file.  Just like the Date/Time is placed in.

hmmmm

If anyone has a clue please let me know.
thanks
Michael

Given that you could easily fiddle it anyway and your sworn word/statement presumably comes into it.

Could you video the scene with the time and date.
Also the image of the GPS data with a time and date.

Then simply edit and add the GPS data as a picture in picture.

I am no help really and I am just thinking aloud how I might do it.

Presumably there is software available to do this if you are able to use a computer as well as your camera.

Sorry that I can not be of any direct help.

I wonder if it is possible to feed the Camcorder direct into the editor with the GPS as a picture in picture.

Maybe a daft idea, but I seem to recall being able to feed the camera direct into Studio, but it may not have been in Record mode and might not have had the time and date.

I will try and think of some more daft ideas; They often lead to a solution by the back door.

One thing that does strike me, is your problem would be an ideal subject for a new Forum that is currently being set up and will be available soon.

Basically an image of what is required is presented along with your requirements.
This sounds no different to what you have done but images might help jog ideas.
There are several very knowledgeable people who may be able to help either way, so I would keep asking.

Just another thought.

We do not know how portable all this has to be or where it would be used.

Ignoring that:
Have you investigated Security Equipment?
There seems to be recorders with multiple input from 2 or 4 cameras all playing to one monitor.
Presumably there is a output to the monitor from which a video could be made.
Or the data played back direct.

With that one camera could record the scene whilst another records the GPS device. (Assuming it can be seen as a suitable image)
The time would presumably be on screen anyway.

Just another long shot that could stimulate a practical idea.

I have not been able to find software or a proper camcorder to do this.
But I will keep on pluging.
thanks
