imho, everyone should get the K-Lite Codec Pack  If some of us can view it and some can't I don't think it's a problem with Doc's video.

The tutorial is not playing through WMP for me. It looks like a flash file with the controls at the bottom. My screen grabber doesn't pick up the actual picture, just the controls.

Well, here it is again using Silverlight. If you don't have Silverlight installed on your computer, you'll get a link to download automatically (it's free).

The video is encoded as an mp4.

Let me know how this works...or if you don't want to download Silverlight.

The link:

Not worth talkin' about around here.
The Silverlight version works at the rights speed on my desktop.

Your thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Hi Doc

Sorry but the Tutorial is not practical to me on Dial-up.
Maybe in due course it would work but past experiences suggest not, or at best as a one off ?

Would it be a simple matter to provide the Tutorial as a downloadable File as opposed to a working video?
(This is the only way I could distribute video tutorials as is my intention in the future)

That way I, and others who collect Tutorials, could save the Tutorial for when it is required.
True it can not be upgraded so easily but may be the only answer with Dial-up or remote G3 downloading.

I don't really fancy sitting in the snow watching the video.

CaptureWiz 4 should do it if you need one.

The new one also captures Video, which I hope to use for Tutorials, but I have not tried it in depth yet.
It did seem good on a short test I did but I have yet to check it out fully.

With the old version some video images were capture-able and some not and for those I had to capture a still from the original material.
I will give it a test later using Windows Media Player.

OK, I've set up a way to download the video (mp4, 6.5mb) for now also. Once I find a format that everyone can view, and I have a second tutorial, I'll set up an index page to them with both options. I don't want to have each tut on my site twice so the "right click" option will be used. That way, one video can be available two different ways.

I have a feeling that there will be some that won't want to install Silverlight either. It may wind up being that I can't please everyone.

Now that is guaranteed.

Being able to get it is probably the only be all target really.
Looking forward to being able to see your work.

Currently we are snowed in here and I can't get up the fell at the moment anyway.

For shame Kayla. You didn't follow my tut to reduce the file size or to sharpen on that screen grab...oh, you're waiting for the PE tut to be released?

By the way, a png image will always be a larger file size than the equevelent .jpg. Your image is 453kb and my reduction below is 90.5kb

Oops, I forgot to change it to a .jpg.
But no, I didn't sharpen it.
On my Mac there is a program called "Preview" (kind of like Microsoft's Picture and Fax viewer), that I use to resize the photos very quickly.

It also has a scaled down enhance mode, but I usually don't mess with that. If I want to sharpen or edit, I'll usually use PSE 6. I don't usually mess with screen shots much.

Looks like a nice little utility. Too bad it doesn't give you a way to reduce the file size (read: compression) for jpg's.

By reducing file size, images load faster on your computer and it takes less space on the forum website.

The last 2 jpg's I posted are much smaller than the png that I forgot to convert. They usually end up much smaller than this, but maybe because the physical dimensions only changed by 14 pixels (814 reduced to 800), it's responsible for the larger KB size? Don't know.

When I use PSE to resize my photos, they end up a larger kb size than what I started with. So yeah, a tute with that program would be cool.

well, I'm sure one of the 483 OTHER screen grabbers that are available to me for Windows will work better

You, otoh, are just lucky that of the 3 that were written for Macs, you found the one that would grab the picture as well.

(I just have to find one that isn't infected with the Goober.worm, so there)

Gee, you have to hit two keys for a screen grab? Seems kinda old fashioned to me. All I do is hit the 'prt scr' key.
